After many group projects, Julien Tassin is now launching his solo career with the release of a guitar album called ‘Momentum’ on Hypnote Records, which will come out on September 7th.
The album’s title is a clue to the conception and recording process of this new repertoire. Within a few months, Julien wrote all ten tracks and went directly to the studio to record them in the energy of the moment, keeping the light and spontaneous feeling on the record that he had imagined while composing.
Inspired by his trio and his taste for Marc Ribot, John Fahey, Derek Bailey, Eric Satie or Frederic Chopin, Julien’s music is laced with a certain melancholy and reveals a unique genre-crossing repertoire. Through a very personal approach and touch, his notes sound ethereal, raw, alive and natural.
For these new pieces, he wanted a more structured framework, a method that looks at classical music while remaining opened to improvisation, getting out of his comfort zone and exploring his instrument to infinity; the guitar - electric, harmonic, omnipresent - tells as many stories as there are tracks on the album.
‘Momentum’ is an intuitive exploration of different atmospheres and dynamics, surprising by the multiple directions it takes, seducing by its spontaneity. A sincere album, because it is the soundtrack of Julien’s life.
